Geoff,
One error when running lvdisplay:

Cannot lock "/etc/lvmconf//lvm_lock" still trying

When running dd if=/dev/vgX/rlvolX of=/dev/null bs=256k:

dd read error: I/O error
338+1 records in
338+1 records out

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a bad disk - got support?

I'd call HP if I were you and log a hardware support call...

A round of applause for everyone, thanks for all the help and support. I mounted the filesystem read-only and backed it up. Now I am going to replace the disk. Couldn't have done with out you guys.
