When I try - I get the error message :
Failed to initialise this agent.
Make sure the agent program exists on the host and can be executed.
I understand that this is because the network card is not installed properly (which is why I need to install software in the first place.)
I have tried setting the hostname ip address to 127.0.0.1 - but unforunately, I am still getting this error message.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Re: cannot install any software
from where you are trying to install s/w. either on server or from client. which version of OS you are using.if you are installing the s/w directly on server then network card presence doesn't matter.be specific

Re: cannot install any software
Have a look at the log file :-
logfile=/var/adm/sw/swagentd.log
Also a restart of swagentd may cure your problem
To start the daemon:
/usr/sbin/swagentd
To restart the daemon:
/usr/sbin/swagentd -r
To stop the daemon:
/usr/sbin/swagentd -k

Re: cannot install any software
if the above suggestions don't work and even after the restart of the swagentd the swinstall is still complaining, try to do a "health-check" on your network.
See if nslookup on hostname and ip resolve correctly. Make sure that if used DNS/NIS is working properly. The software distributor is very sensitive towards network misconfigurations.
