CDE Front Panel Configuration

Hi,
I have one user who's front panel is different from all the
other users. He does not know how it happened and
neither do I. His dtpad is on the right instead of the left and a couple of other items have switched positions.
From reading other threads, this sounds like it may be
in his $HOME/.dt area and could be rectified by
deleting the .dt directory. But, the user has other
customizations he does not want to lose. I have looked
around in his $HOME/.dt, but did not find anything.
Any ideas about where I should be looking for these
customizations in order to eliminate them??
I am heading out for the rest of the day so will not
respond right away, but I look forward to your responses.
Thanks in advance,
Theresa

Re: CDE Front Panel Configuration

Hi

how this may have happened is in CDE pick the style manager icon left of printer. Now select the startup icon one with ket right hand side of window.

If the user selected "Set Home Sessions" then selected " at login return to Home session" each timme he logs in he will have the altered environment.

Change the desktop to how he wants it then select "set home Session" and "return to home session".

cheers
John.

Re: CDE Front Panel Configuration

Try $HOME/.dt/types -> dtwm.fp ? and also the fp_dynamic dir .... compare with working users ?

Also try looking in $HOME/.dt/sessions for a
dtwmfp.session file or

$HOME?.dt/sessions// dtsession.db, dt.session maybe ?

Re: CDE Front Panel Configuration

Hi Theresa,

A location of a personal Front panel is $HOME/.dt/types/fp_dynamic/name.fp

When you change the Front panel and save the session, you will see a new time stamp on the following files (when user logs in):

$HOME/.dt/sessions/dtwmfp.session
$HOME/.dt/sessions/home/ - all files (dt.settings, dtsession.db, dtwm.db)

Maybe you can find more ideas in the CDE: Advanced User's and Systems Administrator's Guide (Ch:Advanced Front Panel Customization)

Re: CDE Front Panel Configuration

Thank you all for your responses! Alex got me looking in the right place...the file $HOME/.dt/types/dtwm.fp was the culprit. I suspect it was put there when the user first logged into HPUX 11i instead of 10.20. He had an old .vue
directory and was asked if he wanted to do the conversion. He said yes and ran into a few other problems. This one was not a showstopper, so he did not complain until now. Also, both docs links from Mateja and Sanjay provided great insight and information. I will keep them for future reference!
Thanks Again!
