Re: CDE issue

Hi,

A good starting point with any CDE related problems is to run the utility dr_dt (I think you will find this in /usr/contrib/bin/X11)

This will highlight any major problems with your config.

Re: CDE issue

If you /can/ telnet to the machine (that is using a terminal emulator, not through X11), go to your home directory and check .dt/errorlog and .dt/startlog

If the CDE is running OK on the machine, but *you* cannot connect using CDE, these files might tell you why.

Re: CDE issue

Hi,

Check the following:

. hostnameresolution
Does nslookup
give correct output.

. If it is login on CDE that is the problem,
check if it is a problem for all or only
one user.
If it is only one user, rename the .dt
directory in his/her home-directory.
If this solves the problem the problem
is to restablish a session.

Re: CDE issue

Hello,
Just do a /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc stop.
Then a /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e. (to start the CDE setup).
Also do /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc start.
Also check the errors using

/usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt to find the errors for the CDE setup.

Thanks

Re: CDE issue

Hi

All the advice shown is good but do not forget

/var/dt/Xerrors
/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

ps -ef|grep dt IS it running

Please describe what you see when it happens.

Re: CDE issue

first thing to check is is dtlogin running ?

If not try starting it manually - > /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc start

any errors to the screen or to /var/dt/Xerrors ?

If not lets see if this is a CDE issue or X

try this :

/sbin/init 2
/usr/bin/X11/X :0

result ? you should see either some errors (check Xerrors too) or a grey mesh screen with a set of cross hairs. Use CTRL SHIFT BREAK to return to a login prompt.

If the above test works ..... and or dtlogin is running I'd use the above posts to narrow down where the problem lies ....

Re: CDE issue

I have used several methods to try to resolve this issue , but the problem is still exiting , the contents of /var/dt/Xerrors is :
-------------
Fatal server error
couldn't open X pointer device! Is one attached?
IO: fatal IO error 232(connection reset by peer) on server "WXRD_WS2:0.0"(the hostname of this workstation) after 0 requests( 0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
-------------
How could I do in the next step ? Could you kindly tell me ?

Re: CDE issue

check the mouse and the keyboard are plugged in properly !

If they are change them for 2 different ones ?

If the problem persists recreate the device files .... using insf

is this a ps2 hil or usb mouse ?

Re: CDE issue

Hi

As shown . The mouse is undetected.

Broken

Loose

Missing in dev files.

Check it and the keyboard and it should be ok.
