Change Max PE or vxvmconvert

Hi

I have a real headache to deal with on the installation of a new array. I am looking to wheel it in and use host based mirroring but
most of the disks were created several years ago & have a PE size of 8631 and Max PE of 4.

This means the maximum LUN size they can support is only 4 x 8631 = 34.524 GB. So that if the new disks are 60GB volumes, then 25GB of each will be unusable.

Given that I can't change MAX PE " on the fly". Could I convert to VXVM and revert to my original strategy. I know that this would be an additional overhead but my other option would be corrective action, i.e build new a new VG on spare disks on the current array and move the data around, this would mean outages. Any help much appreciated

Re: Change Max PE or vxvmconvert

Hi Adrian,
I think that is all the other way: PE size is 4 and Max PE per PV is 8631. It doesn't matter.
So, I understand that your problem is to add new pv into an existing vg. If the vg under discussion isn't vg00 then build a new vg and move the data. If the vg is vg00 then do a make_tape_recovery.
Good luck,
Dan

Maybe an unsupported tool named vgmodify can solve your problem. Take a look at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1013319.
