One method is to find out from PDC when the system boots terminate the boot option and do a info on mem.
This will tell you about each slot.
Or if you have online diagnostics loaded you can see to stm. select RAM and do an information. You'll see all slots and memroy here.

You can do a
#echo 'selclass qualifier memory;info;wait;Infolog'|cstm
to find out the memory slot distribution
Else
Interrupt the auto boot, and go to information
menu (in).
me -> memory information.
The system must be rebooted for this

I cannot find "cstm" or "xstm" in HP-UX k400 B.10.20 A 9000/829. Anybody had other suggestion.

Otherwise there is no other way then rebooting the machine and find the details from PDC.

for getting slot details u have to use cstm or xstm

1) mstm to run the menu version of STM.
2) select the memory
3) run tools - information - run
You will get the information about the slots you want.
