CIFS Client Login Issues

I'm attempting to mount a share on a few Windows boxes. Every time I do this, I get a "error: DOS: Access denied" messages. I've tried everything, i.e.
$ mount -F cifs -o username=x,password=y buildsys:/source home/dev1/source

When I try to do a ciflogin, i.e. the command $ cifslogin //IPadd/share "Doman\\user", I get the error, "Logging in User: Server not connected!"

Anyone have some general troubleshooting steps on what might be the problem. Looking at the manual did not help.

Thanks!

Re: CIFS Client Login Issues

You have network connectivity via ping?

Is the workgroup setting okay in the smb.conf file?

Is there an account on the Windows Primary domain controller for the Unix box?

Is the HP machine visible to Windows Clients in the network neighborhood?

Is the account you are attempting to log on a valid account on the Windows System?

I'm wondering which manual you are using. The CIFS manauls should have some more troubleshooting steps in them.

These above have made it easier for me.\

Re: CIFS Client Login Issues

For the DOS Access denied message.

Make sure that the local user on the windows machine has access for the share.

First check it with creating a local user on the windows box.

Then go with the domain user.

Re: CIFS Client Login Issues

Hi,

I have installed a CIFS Server on a K class and defined a share jumbo_data to be available to some Windows boxes located in the same workgroup. The authentication method is set to SHARE level. The share is visible on the Windows boxes in the network neighbourhood window - maybe I didn't understood your problem - why do you need the CIFS client?
