CIFS file access problem

I've installed CIFS 2.06 on HP-UX 11.0. When I connect with Windows/NT client I can create directories on the share, but when I connect with a Windows 95 client I get Access is denied when trying to create a directory. Any suggestions? The same goes with changing to an existing directory, On NT I can change to a directory, but am unable with 95.

Re: CIFS file access problem

Do you get any info out of /var/opt/samba/smb.log?

You can use SWAT to check the User/Group Id of your Connections.
Do your two different Window connections really use the same User Id?

Re: CIFS file access problem

I don't have my samba book at hand. But this could have to do something with encrypted/not encrypted passwords.

AFAIK there is a switch for "use encrpyted" and "force encrypted". As Win95/98 doesn't use encrypted passwords i think you have set CIFS to use encrypted passwords.

There is a section in the CIFS documentation about NT and encrypted passwords. Think you can find the answer there.

Hope this helps.
