what is meant by cifs server & cifs client


server is used for sharing hp-ux filesstem with windows client

and client is used for mounting windows filesystem on hp -ux

am i correct ??????

yes you are right!!

CIFS client is used to mount windows shares on HP-UX.

Cifs server is used to mount HP-UX shares on Windows

Shalom,

Though not strictly so, CIFS/9000 is Samba.

Samba is the the share system used in windows.

So if you want to share files between Unix, Linux and Windows without installing extra software in Windows, Samba is the way to go.

Windows ships with a samba server and a samba client.

HP-UX has an add in Samba Server and client available at http://software.hp.com under the name CIFS. You really need both installed on HP-UX to handle any kind of integration work.
