Compatible monitor for 715/64

I have one old junk 715/64, which can only display on one monitor model HP71. When connected to other monitors, like A4032 (those with RGB connectors), it doesn't work. Any way to find out which model is compatible with this machine? (But it's funny, I have other similar 715 series which works fine with other monitors).

Re: Compatible monitor for 715/64

Could it be the problem with my installation, eg. my display drivers, adapters type or configuration problem?

Re: Compatible monitor for 715/64

Hello,

I am not sure, but I do not think it is a driver problem.

Did you try to look at the configuration possibility at boot time?
Be careful not to change it if you do not have one of the monitors
mentionned in the other fellow's answer, or a rs232 terminal.

If I remember well, we can change some parameter such as vertical
frequency (60Hz, 72Hz, ...)

Re: Compatible monitor for 715/64

The 715/64 has the built-in "Artist" graphics adapter. This is the same controller found in the 712's. The 715/50 does NOT use this controller. The "Artist" can support ~13 or 14 different resolution/refresh combinations.

The monitor that you have working probably requires a VESA mode (digitial sync, not sync-on-green). The 4032, 4033, with proper cable (RGBHV), support both DS & SOG. But, the 1097 & others only support SOG.

So, what you need to do to use a 4032, 4033, 1090, or other RGB SOG monitor is to change the monitor type to a supported mode. There are a few ways to do this.

1/ Cycle power. After the NUM-LOCK LED on the keyboard flashes, tap the TAB key. This should put the display adapter into a loop through the modes available. When one works, hit ENTER.

2/ Connect the working monitor. Cycle-power & interrupt the boot sequence. At the "BOOT_ADMIN>" prompt, use the MOnitor command to change the monitor mode. (NOTE: This should take effect immediately, so be prepared to swap to the SOG monitor if you loose the display.)

Hope this helps! :-)
