I need to configure two network printers, that doesn't have a HP JetDirect card, and the best of all those printers are not HPs... One is a Canon iR 5000 and the other one is Xerox Document center 432. I tried with SAM to create remote printers for both of them, but when I send a test page, I saw in the queue that the document is there and after a few seconds it desapears and the state of the printer come back to "ready and waiting"... That's normal right, but at the printer I doesn't have anything that comes out!!! I'm on HP-UX 10.20 does somebody know if there is a driver to use for those printers or how can I make them work remotly???
Thanks
Jonathan

SolutionHave you looked at Canon and Xerox websites for HP-UX drivers?
Another option can be to define them on windows server and then define their queues on HP server as remote printers.

Re: Configure a remote printer
You need two vital pieces of info to properly set up a remote ptr:
1)Remote hostname or IP
2) Queue name on remote.
The first should be fairly easy to determine, the second can be much tougher. You need to know this because this info gets tagged on the print job as the destination. You might be able to telnet to the IP & check for help commands & you could determine the queue name that way. Else you'll have to hit the manual to try to determine the default queue name.

Re: Configure a remote printer
I guess you are not trying to connect these printers as network printers using jetadmin. If so, it won't work. What you should try is configure these printers as local printer on some other system and then configure it as a remote BSD printer on the hp server. The remote host name for these printers would be the name of the system to which these priters are connected locally.
You can try this link below,
http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000062936879
The link refers to DOC ID A3993149
Hope this helps.
