Re: Configure Remote printer name

For the queue name on remote printer refer to printer's document. This is internal print name on printer.

Re: Configure Remote printer name

Not too sure what you want, but here's how to add a remote printer via the command line:

lpadmin -v/dev/null -mrmodel -pLOCALQ -ormLOCALQ.yourdomain.com -orpREMOTEQ

man lpadmin for more info.

Re: Configure Remote printer name

The remote printer name is required for all print servers. It is used to define which printer at the server you want to use. However, most network printers use the remote lp protocol RFC 1179 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1179.html) and this standard requires even the simplest lp server (your printer's LAN card) to define a name. You must obtain the name from the manufacturer of the LAN card. There is no workaround since the card expects to see this name as part of the initial communication during printing. The internal name may be prn or text or data, but there is no way to guess the name.

Re: Configure Remote printer name

As a follow on to Bill, the printers I use here are Ricoh/Lanier and they use 'PORT1' as the printer name.
