Configuring IP Address

My HP LaserJet 5si nx is having an IP address problem. I printed out the configuration of the printer and the default gateway on the printer is 192.0.0.192. The weird thing is that somehow the IP address of the printer was changed to 192.0.0.192. There is a conflict with the two. The addess can not be the same as the default gateway. Can someone help me change the IP address.

Thank you!!!!

Re: Configuring IP Address

If jetadmin is installed on one of your servers( HP9000 ), you can configure the printer using Mac-address of the printer. I was able to assign the ip address to a printer and Iam not sure of the gateway part of it.

Anyway try using jetadmin.

Re: Configuring IP Address

192.0.0.192 is the factory default IP address and gateway for HP JetDirect interface NIC's.

On HP printers, the JetDirect host IP and gateway can be set via the front panel menu, can be downloaded via DHCP or bootp, or you can use JetAdmin software remotely.

Re: Configuring IP Address

Install jetadmin or web jetadmin to configure. Use bootp to configure the printer.
And yes, a lan interface CAN have a default gateway of itself. While you dont see it in most cases.
Normal lan
>netstat -rn
DEST GATE FLGS blah blah INTERFACE
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 2 lo0
c-class.0 host-ip lan0(or your device)
your-ip 127.0.0.1 lo0

If your network device has this config, all IP's are requested here. Since there is no routing outside of your class-c you will get "no route to host" errors because your interface can not route past itself.
Adding a default route to your own interface will produce exactly the same results unless you have a route protocol daemon running which can find routes by itself, and routes discovered for where you want to go.

Re: Configuring IP Address

You can find the ip address for a configured printer in the
/etc/lp/interface/ file look for 'PERIPH='.

Re: Configuring IP Address

time to dig up the manual at:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printers/manuals/bpl07288.pdf

Follow the instructions on how to use the control panel to configure the printer to configure the IP address and default gateways etc. remember to save the changes when you have made them.

Once you have set up a valid IP address, you can manage the printer ...
nothing wrong with me that a few lines of code cannot fix!

Re: Configuring IP Address

You would be fine using JetAdmin. If you use it through sam, its so much easier.
Adv: You dont have to read any manual pages, but more importantly, you can do it remotely.
The other thing you could try is doing it through the front panel.
Disadv: You have to go the printer physically and read up the manual.
