Configuring Predictive / test email

I've been reading all your suggestions for configuring predmail but am unsure on one point, namely if the predmail return/reply user redirects mail to /opt/pred/bin how can you ever check that HP have replied? The message is going out from root as shown in mail.log - will the reply be shown there as well? My tcpemail.cf shows _ADDR=predmail@... and _MAILFROM=root@...
Does this mean root will get the replies or predmail?

Re: Configuring Predictive / test email

Hi
Pred mails to root any problems and points you to a file
/opt/pred/bin/psaction

Just check roots mail or forward that mail to your normal email address.

Re: Configuring Predictive / test email

Thanx for the hints, Paula but I don't have a file by that name (yet).

When I run psconfig though it says: [File transfer is currently running]

How can I stop this?

Re: Configuring Predictive / test email

Hi
When I run psconfig I get this ? note next run.
Do you get and error at this screen or before it appears?

***************************************************************************

M (MainMenu) P (PreviousMenu) R (Refresh) H (Help) E (Exit)

HP Predictive Support Main Menu

1 - RUN Predictive
2 - STOP Predictive
3 - TRANSFER Data Menu
4 - CONFIGURATION Options Menu
5 - PRINT Reports Menu
6 - MAINTENANCE Menu

NOTE: Predictive Support status - [next run - THU, 6:15 AM]

Re: Configuring Predictive / test email

Paula, what I get is:

***************************************************************************

M (MainMenu) P (PreviousMenu) R (Refresh) H (Help) E (Exit)

HP Predictive Support Main Menu

1 - RUN Predictive
2 - STOP Predictive
3 - TRANSFER Data Menu
4 - CONFIGURATION Options Menu
5 - PRINT Reports Menu
6 - MAINTENANCE Menu

NOTE: Predictive Support status - [File transfer is currently running]

Type an item number, an item key, or a command:

********************************************

I guess it's from when I ran a test transfer before the reply mail was configured. What I want to know is whether I can kill it at this end or do I wait for HP to time it out at their end.

Meanwhile I am testing my inbound mail config.

Re: Configuring Predictive / test email

Hi
Select option 2 Stop predictive and if all ok restart it.
If not all OK then ps -ef|grep pred should give you:-
root 1723 1 0 Aug 4 ? 0:42 /opt/pred/bin/psmond
Kill this process and then fire up psconfig again and start up pred fresh.

This should one way or another cure your problems.

P.S. it is best to stop pred whilst your are setting the params and then restart it.

Re: Configuring Predictive / test email

That worked fine, Paula thanks.

Now all I have to do is get inbound mail to root and predmail going. Cheers.

Phil:

BTW...

Perhaps you will find my experience helpful information. I use internal modem setup with Predictive Support. I configure Predictive to unconditionally send its action summary report to /opt/pred/bin/psasction regardless of what there is to report. Thus the whole report, may be nothing more than an entry signaling a normal, non-eventful run. In my case, I simply mail my local root account.

My experience has always been that I'll have a voice mail from my local engineers waiting for me in the morning if Predictive has anything substantive to report.
