Configuring the Network ( IP ) based printer

Hi

Can anybody tell me how to configure the IP based printer in HP-UX.
Details:
OS HP-UX 11.i
Printer : Lipi ( Tally) with IP 10.x.x.x

Now I can add this printer using SAM or command line so that the default printing to server will go to this network (IP) printer.
.
I heard something about jetdirect .. But I think we need HP Jetadmin cards to do this.
( Support of this card in Lipi printer is doubfull)..

Any sollutions

For configuring Network printer you can use hp Jetdirect s/w. Using this HPNP product you can configure your network printer. It's amenu based utility and freely available from HP.

Which network printing protocol the printer uses?

If the network printer's manual mentions LPR or LPD protocols, you'll have to know which queue name the printer expects to be used.
(It may be that the printer does not care, or it may require a specific name, like "raw" to be used). Then you can configure the printer to HP-UX like the printer were another unix server with a local printer attached.

If the protocol is defined as TCP and port number is 9100, then it is exactly like HP JetDirect. (Many network printers are like that.)

use addqueue from the command line:

-h is the host name, and -q is the queue name.

Most printers are added with 9998 "Generic". Some may have to be 9992 (Genicom).
