Confusion ! What does it be happening ?

Today I see so much thread of wrong congratulations.

Here there are congratulations of new magicians for user that are almost pharaons.
This is a big confusion.

Please .... before of to write, verify the dates and the profiles.


I think that a new only dedicated section to the congratulations is better.

It seems some people look through all the old congrats threads to earn a few points here and there. Then, other people don't notice that the thread is months old and post to it too. SO the cycle continues.

I think that the etiquette doc needs a suggestion that old congrats threads should all get 0 points.

As the one who accidently re-started those two threads today, please feel free to chastise.
I had a weird search return "nothing but old Congrats files" with more recent dates than the last reply. I actually responded to two of them before I realized. I submitted the search issue on Dan's December Issues thread.

I also concur that 0 points is a good idea here. I would actually take -1 each for those if I could.

My thread is a adverting to who gives Congratulations. It isn't the protest for assign points.

Also me, responded to one of them before I realized (like Angus).

You know, theres a lot to be said for only congratulating those you actually have noticed or have had some interaction with.

On the other hand, anybody who achieves a new hat should get some recognition so I guess I don't really know what's the best thing. There are, however, rather a lot of these threads at the moment.

I thought, in the etiquette document, we are encouraged to only congratulate Wizard and above in the hp-ux forum.

P.S. Congrats Todd :) It's a nice hat that one!

Well, let's see: If we assume maybe half a dozen congrats posts a week on average and use the high end of the typical points assignment (5), I come up with a little over 8 weeks, hypothetically speaking.

With regards to this issue:

HP needs to have a congrats/humor/off topic thread. That is one of Pete's monthly requests that I REALLY agree with.

Dear Bruno,

I believe we all read the rules... but only a few may disregard them, that is why there are moderators.

I, Like you, get frustrated when I see obvious flagrant violations of protocol, but I dont think that congrat posts are a grevious violation of this rule...unless folks are assigning 10 points to every post.

However, I agree, they should be zero points imho as well... if we are goin to keep them in the forums..

Especially since there are no "awards" for reaching a status any longer...points are a bit irrelavent... I wish they would just do away with them altogether...

The only reason now for points now is merely for assigning the Value that a post grants the requestor...

I'd have to disagree in part with the total abstination approach taken by SEP on this one.

Although the number of congrats posts can get a little irritating at times, I think that they, and the points system, really encourages people to use the forums.

Perhaps the solution is to assign 0 points to all congratulation posts so that those who genuinly want to congratulate someone can.

I also tend to avoid posting on "congrats" threads - otherwise it would be too easy to accumulate possibly hundreds of points by adding my own congrats to everyone; thus falsely inflating my own points total.

I agree with the concept of congratulating forum members for their achievements, but feel that points should be awarded only for helping other members with answers to their questions/problems.
