Create a backup kernel

I've got a good copy of a tuned kernel and want to make a backup copy. What are the steps?
Is it as easy as "cp -p /stand/vmunix /stand/vmunic.prev"? With a similar comand for /stand/system.

thanks

Re: Create a backup kernel

Stuart,

Yes, it's as simple as that - that's exactly what SAM does if you use it to build a kernel.

Stuart,

I should add that you probably want to do the same thing with the /stand/system file.

Re: Create a backup kernel

You can not boot off a kernel stored on a non HFS filesystem.

You can howeer store backups anywhere you want, if you are short of space on /stand

Re: Create a backup kernel

Hi Stuart,

Yes, it's that easy, but I'd caution you to use another extension than .prev as that's what's used by default.
So that the next time you build a kernel your cuurent kernel is cp'd to .prev.
If you want to *permanently* save this kernel rename them to vmunix.safe / system.safe & then they'll never be overwritten.

My 2 cents,
Jeff
