Re: date time wrong

Hi Jose,

Yes, that's totally normal. That's why you should setup an NTP (Network Time Protocol) server for your datacenter & have all systems setup as clients of it. This way all systems are in sync. Your NTP server should be setup as a client of an external precise NTP server out on the Internet (Or via RF)which will keep it in sync with the rest of the world. If you don't wish to sync outside your environment, you can still setup a single (or two) server as the NTP server & all other systems as clients. Then at least all internal systems are synced.

Jeff

Re: date time wrong

hi,

normal? yes - no ...

I never trusted any server (any brand) to have its clock run like an atomic clock.

You'll need to synchronize with an NTP server to have your clock run correctly.

However if the difference is rather large, you could log an hardware call, but I suspect 1 sec/day won't validate some hardware replacement.

Thierry.

Re: date time wrong

one second per day is better than any of my N-classes. Using NTP is the way to go,if you have many servers. If you cant sync to an outside clock, reset the NTP server time every month or so.

Re: date time wrong

We were having the same issue. We ended up setting up an NTP server. Here is a doc that shows you how:

http://www.docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90685/B2355-90685_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90685/00/00/64-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90685/00/00/64-toc.html&searchterms=NTP&queryid=20031029-091413

Good luck

Re: date time wrong

HP did not use super accurate swiss clocks when they designed their system clocks.

You are way ahead of my servers as far as drift, and NTP will solve this problem for you.

Re: date time wrong

I agree with the synching with NTP -- however, if the drift is as large as you say -- then the crystal that controls the system clock may be defective -- a CE can determine if that is the case -- they also have a program (SSCONFIG, I think) they can run to compensate for the drift.

Hope that helps.
