Difference between pts/0 and tty/0
I am a somewhat newbie, and have a question that needs to be cleared up.
When I do a who on my HPUX server I get to logins one being myself on tty/01 and another of someone else on pts/01. Now I know he had to telnet to machine as well. What are the difference between the to.
It could have been he logged in using rlogin...

Re: Difference between pts/0 and tty/0
'tty' are data comm serial based devices and somewhat obsolete since LAN connectivity. Prior to LAN connections everybody used data comm.
'pty' are 'streams' based 'pseudo' connection devices used with LAN's.
So its as simple as data comm or LAN connections where 'tty' is the name of the device.
telnet = pts/NN (number is in hex)
terminal/modem = tty
