The Novell will not work with HP-UX. We are looking for a new directory services solution. I see HP supports Netscape directoy services is this a good solution?

Re: Directory Services
There is also LDAP/UX
I've not use either of these, so I'm not sure if they'd be ok for you, but I know they both exist.

Re: Directory Services
As far as performance is concerned, search Google for LDAP performance benchmark. You'll get a number of results.
This one provides fairly good analysis:

Re: Directory Services
I nave checked with Novell and they do sell a product that will allow HP-UX to work with NDS. The product requires the writing of a script to facilitate the password change. Plus I will need to purchase a second product to configure NDS for LDAP so that it will work with the Checkpoint firewall.
I think that I will go with the Netscape directory services.

Re: Directory Services
We tested NAM3 (novell account manager) from novell. imho, It's a great product. We didn't implement it however, because instability of the DS & problems with password synchronisation between NT4 (AD), Z/OS (ACF2) and hpux. The synchronisation was the key feature for us. I assume the novell-guys improved the stability of the DS during the last months. So if your wallet is thick enough it might be interesting to take a closer look at NAM.
