Disk not intializing

Hi Admins,

We reboot the HP UX 11.0ver server. After reboot, server is back, but one filesystem is not mounting.

For example : A volume group ( vg02 ) contains three disks.
strings /etc/lvmtab
/dev/vg02
/dev/dsk/c0t3d0
/dev/dsk/c2t4d0
/dev/dsk/c4t5d0

But when i do "ioscan -fnC disk",the disk c2t4d0 is not display in the output.

How to recognize the missing disk, any specific command ?

Regards,
Viswanadhan.

Re: Disk not intializing

Sounds like you lost a disk...

This looks the same as:

Re: Disk not intializing

if it's not showing in ioscan usualy it means you have a bad disk, i would call HP HW and open a case with them to get a new disk

Re: Disk not intializing

Hi Viswanandhan,

Yup seems the disk is totally dead, in normal condition if the disk is bad it would show as NO_HW however in this case it had rebooted so the information about the disk is no more available hence not reflecting anything.

Check /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log you would find pv link failure messages along with read write & lbolt errors.

Now is the time for you to contact HP for hardware support and have it replaced.

Re: Disk not intializing

Hi Prasanth,

We got a mail from the server thru script says "Volume Group Backup Failed".

We planned to change the disk.
