Re: Display setting

Hi:

The first part refers to the 'displaynumber'. If a machine has multiple monitors, this value is used to distinguish them. It refers to a group of monitors that share a common keyboard and mouse. The second value (.0) refers to the screennumber. In a few cases, multiple keyboards and mice are involved and this value is used to distinguish them.

If you are using a PC-based X-emulator, the meaning of the displaynumber and screennumber is implementation dependent.

Man X for details.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Display setting

as has been said, it is displaynumber:screennumber, where the displaynumber refers to a group of monitors that all share a single keyboard; and screennumber refers to the opposite, a single monitor that is paired with multiple keyboards.

Most systems, however, have just one of each directly attached. Like with most things Unix, the counting starts at zero. So the default monitor is zero, and the default keyboard (and virtual screen to which the association it tied) is zero.
