DLT device files

DLT device files

One of our v-class machines has 8 DLT devices attached to it, however an ioscan shows over twenty devices. I have tried an rmsf to remove the device files and recreated them using insf -C stape -e. However it just creates the same amount of files again.

Any ideas as to what to try next?

Thanks

Re: DLT device files

Hi,

It is normal to have more than one device file for a tape drive : the OS creates device files for "no rewind" Best compression etc. Check the MAN page of insf for more info.

Re: DLT device files

Sorry didn't make myself clear, what I meant was an ioscan shows 20 of so devices, I didn't mean individual device files, as in no-rewind.

Re: DLT device files

Robin,

Are the DLTs directly connected to the V or attached to a SAN ?

Re: DLT device files

You may have a scsi id conflict.
Check the scsi id's of the tape drives.
You may want to try removing the drives and adding them one at a time to help narrow down the culprit.
