dmesg error

when i do dmesg it gives no output other than buffer full.The uptime of the server is 360 days.Is there is any way to get the dmesg output without an reboot.

dmesg is a circular buffer so it really shouldn't ever fill. This is a first for me.

What version of HP-UX are you running?

dmesg simply shows a small area of kernel memory where messages are written. If you have hundreds of messages about a full filesystem, then thatin/dmesg is all you will see. That's why you want to put the details into a log. Add this to root's cron:

0,10,20,30,40,50 * * * * /sbin/dmesg - >> /var/adm/dmesg.log

Now you will see all the messages along with a time stamp. As with all logs, you must trim the logs on a regular schedule.
