DNS Updates
I am running HPUX 11.X and have setup DHCP and DNS. I am getting messages at syslog specifying "unable to update dns". I prefer to do my DNS updates manually. Is there a tag that can be placed in DHCP so that the Windows clients don't try to update DNS?

Re: DNS Updates
Only way to stop it is to turn it off at the workstation level:
A Win2k box, either workstation or server, will by default try to register itself.
It would be great if this can be turned off on all Windows Workstations and Servers...
You can turn off this self-registration via
To see what options are set:
Start
Settings
Network and Dialup Local Area
Properties
Adapter
Protocols
TCP/IP
Advanced
DNS
The "Register this name" box should NOT be checked.
If you need to uncheck the box, then you may have to reboot for the change to take effect.

Re: DNS Updates
Actually, there is a setting, but it may not correct your problem, there's also a client setting for win2k or better
Open the DHCP tool and connect to your server. Right click the server and choose properties, under DNS there is an "update Dns on behalf of the clients" option (I think, running from memory here.).

There have been Innumerable people who have helped me. Of course, I've managed to piss most of them off.
