Does HP-UX 11.23 support DLT 7000 on PA-RISC or Itanium?

Does HP-UX 11.23 support DLT 7000 drives? (specifically the HP DLT 70i - C5657A)

I can't find anything definitive on either the HP or Quantum websites.

HI,

Of course, we already have a HPUX 11.23 box with a old external DLT 7000 drive.

We TAR or use it with DataProtector.

This is one of those "it depends" situations. Almost all DLT7000/DLT8000 drive are HVD (Hi Voltage Differential) (sometimes referred to as FWD) SCSI devices and no HVD SCSI devices are supported at 11.23 and up. However, the stape driver is perfectly capable of sending the commands to a DLT7000 drive SO if you get an HVD/LVD SCSI bus converter there should be no problem making it work.

Blackbox also makes these devices.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

FWD is Fast Wide Differential. HVD is High
Voltage Differential, a new term to describe
an old interface, formerly known as
Differential, made necessary by the advent
of Low Voltage Differential signals. ("Hi,
Voltage" is a greeting.) HVD can be slow or
fast, narrow or wide.

HVD is _not_ equivalent to FWD.

So as of 11.23, no more FWD SCSI on an N box? A4800A no longer recognized?

When/where was that announced? Where's it documented?

Hmmmm. Never mind that last one...

But - when/where was this originally announced?

Re: Does HP-UX 11.23 support DLT 7000 on PA-RISC or Itanium?

It's been in the Release Notes of every 11.23 release. The Release Notes should be read cover to cover as soon as you get a new OS release so that there are no surprises when you install/upgrade. As I indicated earlier, no HVD/FWD SCSI devices are supported at 11.23 and above. Your tape drive will definitely work if you use an LVD/HVD convertor and you may as well remove all of your HVD SCSI controllers from your N-box; they are now boat anchors. The good news is that you can find LVD HBA's for your N-box dirt cheap on the used market.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
