After I subnet, the remote DTC48 will no longer work, I am told that it can't traverse a subnet to get it's boot info from the server.
HP tells me there is a different model HP DTC that uses ftp to boot, and so will work across a subnet.
But if I decide to go with something else, say a 3rd party terminal server instead, how would that work? currently the DDFA software creates the ocd processes etc. needed, which I'm assuming would be of no value to a non-DTC terminal server.

Re: DTC replacement
You would need to buy the DTC 16RX and the software (if still available) for HP-UX to get it to traverse subnets to boot.
take a look here:

Re: DTC replacement
I'm sure that would be fine for my dumb terminals that just telnet to the server anyway, but for my line printers I'd need something that the HP-UX server could send print jobs to.
I was wondering how the server would handle that.

SolutionYes, the DTC16RX (J2064A) would work. This hardware should still be available from resellers, but it's no longer available from HP. You would also need to install
the DTC16RX Manager software (J2496A) on the HP-UX 11.11 system to manage the DTC16RX.
Note also that DDFA can use ocd processes to work with non HP terminal servers but with reduced functionality and limited support from HP.

Re: DTC replacement
I realy like the DTC configuration interface on HP-UX, but the thing was so bloody large, heavy and power consuming, that the DECserver makes it look archaic
Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn [ who wouldn't know how the DECserver would act over routers ]
