dtlogin authentication failure when using VNC

Am trying to use VNC Enterprise with inetd and dtlogin. Anytime a user password includes special characters, dtgreet will either fail to authenticate the user/pw or will terminate immediately upon typing the special character. Found 1 forum reference suggesting adding the XKB_DISABLE=1 to /etc/dt/config/Xconfig but that did not seem to change the symptoms.

Anybody got any ideas how to get this to work correctly?
