you may well be right (I do not remember reading it, probably due to being too lazy to read it all, or to an aging memory)
Personally, I tend to _NOT_ agree. For forum newbees the hat is a nice milestone, and the congrats thread that puts it in the spotlights for some days is a big stimulans.
_I_ remember being quiet flattered, especially the first time!
And I _DO_ think that stimulating more people is generally a good thing.

As a side topic:
I am normally active in the VMS forum.
That forum being relatively new, our promotions are much rarer, and (I now hope I am speaking for all, or at least for most) we as a community quite enjoy them.

Next side topic:
A lot of the "blame" goes to another Dutchie: Merijn, aka Procura, (Jazeker, ik benoem je gewoon tot partner-in-crime) produces these nice stats every week. When I note _ANY_ promotion of a compatriot, I like to congratulate him/her. And if I find nobody opened a thread, then I will do that honarable task.
Summing up:
I promise I will (try to) stay away from the HPUX "undergraduates" ..... unless they are Dutch.
And, Muthu, this may maybe sound too much as a defense, but please read this _ONLY_ as an explanation, _I_ certainly did _NOT_ take offence, and neighther do i intend to give it!
