EMC diskarray and HPUX 10.20

Hi all,

Planning to connect an EMC diskarray to K420 running 10.20. Does 10.20 support 9GB chunks from EMC ? What is the maximum disk size I can have ??

Regards

10.20 can support EMC 9GB chunks fine. Were using 17GB EMC metas on 10.20 - no problems. I think the max size you can have on 10.20 is 128Gb, but EMC wouldnt recommend it. Even with their new 179GB disks they still only recommend meta volumes to HP servers of 17GB for performance reasons (were running Oracle).

hi

no problem at all. I am having EMC with 9GB disks and K class with 10.20 working fine.

Yes, 9GB disks are a not an issue. Make sure you bring your server up to date in patches.

Your LV can support 128GB max.

Re: EMC diskarray and HPUX 10.20

Hi:

If by "chunks" you mean does 10.20 support 9GB physical disk as presented by an EMC array, then yes, absolutely.

As for the limitations of disk size, have a look at the man pages for 'lvcreate'. A composite of 'pe_size', 'max_pe', 'max_pv' will determine the maximum volume size. Be very careful in your choices (and *don't* use the default values). Once established (during 'vgcreate') they cannot be changed.

Re: EMC diskarray and HPUX 10.20

We are quite happily running with 72Gb "disks" from our SAN on 10.20. The big thing to remember is that vgcreate command will use the first disk provided to determine the Max PE size unless you use the -e option to that command and as said above you can't change it later. So if you are going to add bigger disks later on set this size to more than your current disk to save later heartache.
