Encryption Software

Greetings fellow admins, have a need to some encryption for some data that we will be ftping to vendors. Was wondering what others were using for encryption software. I'm aware of pgp and understand public key algrithms are easier to attack. Not sure about SSH, have not worked with it. At any rate open for suggestions. Thankyou!
