Re: Error when doing ignite
"It is preferable to use the ignite GUI menu
command on the Ignite-UX server when running an interactive make_tape_recovery session. Running it from ignite causes
any additional server configuration of NFS mounts to be performed. It also provides a better progress report and an easier to use interface."
Have you tried using the GUI? If you need any help setting it up, just ask.

Re: Error when doing ignite
Have you tried running ignite in GUI mode? The man page recommends this if you want to do an interactive make_tape_recovery.

Re: Error when doing ignite
backing up files using tar is ok => drive ok.
(drive is C1537A // SMART DDS tape)
problem description in log file points to:
/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.00/SYSCMDS
=> has "read" permissions for all, is approx. 15MB in size.
=> Question: Is make_recovery supported on C1537A SMART?
=> Answer: Yes
..then reinstall IGNITE (swremove old version first).
(SW can be found in internet at
http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/index.html
and also at application CD)
=> Then install new Version B.3.3.116
=> make_tape_recovery -A was successful

Re: Error when doing ignite
Check the url below (docID : KBRC00016088) about 'make_medialif: SYSCMDS and SYSCMDSIA not found' :
http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000079988683
Looks like there's some fileset missing when you download the software. Remove the Ignite, re-download and if in doubt and disk space is not an issue install the Ignite-UX package containing all the OS's.
Hope this information can help you.
Cheers,
AW
