Error when loading a page with java using Netscape
Hi,
I'm new to the Unix world, so please forgive my ignorance.
I recently installed Netscape 4.79 and the 1.4_0.01 JPI from the HP site. When I view the plugins installed in the browser, it shows that the java plugin is installed. However, when I try to view any site that has a java applet, I get the following error:
/usr/lib/dld.sl: can't find path for shared library: libjava.sl
/usr/lib/dld.sl: no such file or directory
Plugin: Plugin is not enabled or Java VM process has died.
I searched my system for the libjava.sl file and it was only located under my OV directory where I installed HP OpenView. Do I need to install the entire 1.4 JRE?
Also, Is it possible to run Netscape 6.2 on the system so that I can switch between the two browsers when I want to (not simultaneously)? I've downloaded the 6.2.1 depots from the http://www.hp.com/go/netscape
site, but it looks like ximian gnome and GTK support libraries. I don't understand what these are or how the browser is launched once these depots are installed.
Regards,

Re: Error when loading a page with java using Netscape
OK,
I waited 7 minutes, ;) and since I didn't get a reply, I downloaded the full JRE 1.4.0.01 and installed it. This took care of the problem and now Netscape 4.79 is able to open pages that contain Java Applets. I guess the conclusion is that the 1.4 JPI is not sufficient and it does not install the javalib.sl file that is needed...feel free to contradict that statement if you've loaded only the JPI and were able to get it to work.
