Errors Encountered While Creating a Patch Depot
Hello All,
I am trying to create a patch depot on my r box and I keep coming across errors that I have never seen while doing this. This is the first time I am patching this particular server. Basically, it says that I do not have proper permissions to do this but I am logged in as root. When I try to run the command swacl it balks and does not let me run that either.
bioxweb /bxmweb =>swacl
ERROR: A valid edit level is needed for the successful execution of
"swacl"(). The valid levels are:"host", "depot", "root",
"product", "product_template", "global_product_template" or
"global_soc_template".
bioxweb /bxmweb =>id
uid=0(root) gid=3(sys)
But as you can see I am logged in as root.
The errors that I get when trying to make the depot are:
======= 03/26/01 15:28:18 EST BEGIN swcopy SESSION (non-interactive)
* Session started for user "root@bioxweb".
* Beginning Selection
ERROR: "bioxweb:/bxmweb/patch_depot": You do not have the required
permissions to select this target. Please check to see that
you have the required permissions using the "swacl" command or
see your system administrator for assistance.
* Target connection failed for "bioxweb:/bxmweb/patch_depot".
ERROR: More information may be found in the daemon logfile on this
target (default location is bioxweb:/var/adm/sw/swagentd.log).
* Selection had errors.
bioxweb /bxmweb/patch_temp =>tail /var/adm/sw/swagentd.log

I am not sure what is going on with this one. I have never seen this before. Does anybody have any ideas? Many thanks in advance.
Rob

Re: Errors Encountered While Creating a Patch Depot
I think the problem with the fisrt error is that you are using 'swacl' wrong. Go to the man page for all the correct options. I think you would do this command:
swacl -l root -D [acl options ] -F[acl file] or -M[acl entry]
There are other options and the man page will help. I also think this will probably solve the other errors.

Re: Errors Encountered While Creating a Patch Depot
I assume that you did not change the swacl permission. Better you keep them like they are.
What usually causes those permission errors is that there is an inconsistency of DNS. SD probably believes that you want to access a remote host. Compare the output of the following commands:
# hostname
# uname -a
# nslookup `hostname`
# ifconfig lan0
# nslookup
If this gives the same information for each command, my theory is wrong. :)
You might also want to do the following:
# export SDU_DEBUG_SEC=1
# swagentd -r
#
Now check the stdout and and the /var/adm/sw/*log files for the permissions that SD was expecting.
