/etc/securetty configuration for LAN console access

How is possible to configure /etc/securetty to access (user root) from Lan console ?

Now, in the securetty file is "console" present and is not possible to access via LAN console but local console only.

thanks

Re: /etc/securetty configuration for LAN console access

mv /etc/securetty /etc/securetty.bak

Login from LAN console. Do who -um, put what you see in second column in /etc/securetty file in addition to console.

Does that work??

The LAN-Console is the same as the serial console (for all intents and purposes). I've never had a problem not being able to access the system as root from the GSP when working with a securetty.

Re: /etc/securetty configuration for LAN console access

Hi Giuseppe,

If /etc/securetty has the entry "console" then root may only login from the systems console port. That does include the GSP or MP LAN connection also. If you have an older system without a GSP or MP, you can also use a WEB Console that will connect to the consoles serial interface.

If you intend to use the GSP/MP LAN access to the system console, you have to configure that interface. You need to add an administrator and/or operator ID and password, give it an I.P. address and hopefully use SSL to secure the LAN connection.

Check the appropiate GSP/MP user manual for the type of system you are using.
