Exceed Root Login Error

Hi,
I am having server running HP-UX 11.0
now when i just telnet to the server
through windows its works fine and allows
me to logon to server as root, but if i
try to login through EXCEED it connects to
the server and then it display error

rexecd : Login Incorrect

though my username and password are correct.

What could be the reason.

Thanks,
Amit

Re: Exceed Root Login Error

Is your root password due to expire? I believe that if a password is required to be changed, you can telnet ok, but not rexec until the password has been changed.

Re: Exceed Root Login Error

Hi,
How can I check that it is going to expire
apart from this there is only one client
thorugh which I can EXCEED to the server
but no other place from entire netowrk.

Please help me out with this.

Thanks,

Re: Exceed Root Login Error

If you are using "PAM" for password authentication, then the telnet password (authenticated against NIS, ADS, or LDAP0 may be different than what EXCEEDE will authenticate (which is /etc/passwd).

Re: Exceed Root Login Error

Exceed can save your login details. Check if you have saved the user_name and password for X session. If you have, seems that it is a old password saved in exceed that is causing the problem.

Also what does syslog.log says when try loggin in through exceed??

Re: Exceed Root Login Error

You will get this message after expiration. Try a telnet login and see if it forces a password change.

It is also possible sysems administration, if thats not you did a passwd -l on your account.

Also if there are too many bad logins, many admins will even on non-trusted systems lock the account.

Its an easy script that I've posted many times. Check the lastb output.

Also, you might want to re-start the internet daemon:

inetd -c

Re: Exceed Root Login Error

Try changing your exceed login to telnet or rlogin instead of REXEC(TCP/IP) in the Xstart client startup Application in the exceed application.
