executing CSTM command

Last week I executed a sequence of commands suggested by S.K. Chan. I got the DIMM and memory carrier board info I needed from one server. But one other server rebooted after I ran these commands. This happened two times. I had another SA run this command on her servers and both ran fine. This sequence of commands:

#echo "selall;info;wait;infolog
>view
>done
>"|cstm>hardware-file

are what I ran. Does anyone know why this would cause one of the servers to crash two times after running these commands two times? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: executing CSTM command

Hi Denise,

You can load the followong patch for that.

PHSS_26463

This is a memory leak patch and fixes any other errors related to support tools manager.

Try to run the same commands and see whether it reboots other machine or not?

Also be sure to check what versions of stm you are running.this patch aplies to v26 to 31....

Re: executing CSTM command

That's odd Denise, we have been using this technique to grab information from all our servers and have not encounter any problem.. I would like to know too what's going on.

Re: executing CSTM command

Hi Denise,

Check and see if you have the same version of stm on both the system or you have different versions. you can upgrade to the latest version. You can download the latest version of STM tools from this link,

https://software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/try.pl?productNumber=B6191AAE&date=

Copy and paste the above link in your browser.

Hope this helps.

Re: executing CSTM command

Right now I cannot load any patches, as the server is being tested by other business groups. But I will load the patch. I am not sure if this patch is what I need, because the other server does not have this patch and still was able to run the CSTM command. I'll assign pts now and come back to this later if needed. Thanks.

Re: executing CSTM command

Before you install the patch take a look at GSP error log (if any) related to the crash. You should be able to find some traces of th crash left behind to figure out what is causing it.

Re: executing CSTM command

John,

I am not able to run xstm now. This is put on hold as other people need the server for now. I'll try to run that and see if this is giving me any problems. Meanwhile, I am going to check out the version and patches and see if they are the same on other servers. Thanks.
