Export/Import database between different version of oracles

I was exported a database from oracle 9i release 1 and i try to import it to oracle 10g
but it is not working, Why?

What did Oracle support tell you? Surely you went to Oracle first for an Oracle problem on a new version?

1. export the database of oracle 9i on the server of oracle 10g.
Example)
10gserver:dba> exp scott/tiger@oracle9iLink file = ora9.dmp full = y compress = n log = exp.log

2. import the export file on the server of oracle 10g.

i was enter the username/password
then when i put the path of .dmp file the import screen will be close?

but when i export from the same version will be work.
