Extending root file system....

Has anyone used Online JFS (fsadm) to extend the root file system? Would you recommend using fsadm or is Ignite-UX the best way to extend root?

Thanks

Re: Extending root file system....

Wallace,

The main problem here is that /, /stand, and swap need to be contiguous - you can't just extend the root file system. The only way to accomplish this is to use and Ignite make_tape_recovery backup to rebuild your root vg and re-size the file systems in the process. Ignite is available here:

Re: Extending root file system....

Hi,

As allready suggested the only way to acomplish this is a ignite backup. Also change some default Volume group parameters alongwith file system sizes while restoring from ignite. Primarily focus on Max PE Per PV & PE Size parameters. This can be indeed of great help if you require to change your OS disks in future due to any reason.

Thanks for the suggestions. However; there is a document that explains extending root using fsadm(OnLineJFS) and yes it does take into consideration that the root logical volume requires contiguous disk space. If you want to review this document, it is
KBRC00006582. Just wanted to know if anyone had used this OnlineJFS procedure.
