Fibre Move

Will the device names change on my server, if it is moved over to different SAN fibre switch?

Re: Fibre Move

It absolutely will change the device names. It is however possible to renumber the device names after the switch.

Document KBRC00004879 tells how to do that.

As a precaution, I'd back up the data and do a vgexport on the volume group. You can then vgimport after the switch, rebuild the volume group and minimize the disruption.

Re: Fibre Move

Can anyone suggest me what are the steps involved so that i can retain the same device names, VG and LV's by moving the server to different SAN switch. I'll greatly appreciate any suggestions and procedures.
Thank you

Re: Fibre Move

We completed the task successfully, The device names will change when you move over to different SAN switch. Do a VGSCAN and VGCHANGE for all the Volume groups and mount them.
