Forum display problems
A tip:
I have found a method that seems to reduce message duplication. Instead of using a left click to create a New Message or Reply, use a right click and open the message block in a new window (MSIE: Open Link in New Window; Netscape: Open in New Window). Now you enter your message like you normally do. It's also helpful if you want to refer to the original message thread while you're composing the message - just switch back and forth between windows. When you are done, submit the post as you normally do. If you run into any sort of problem while posting, DO NOT resubmit the post until you make sure that it was not received. Instead, switch back to the original thread and refresh the thread to your browser window (MSIE: Refresh; Netscape: Reload). If your message appears in the forum, simply close the message posting window WITHOUT resubmitting. Be patient! If you don't see your message immediately, give it a few minutes and refresh it again before you decide to resubmit. (You can leave the message posting window up for a while and use your other window to continue within the forums and check again later).
This right click idea will work on most of the underlined objects on the screen but will NOT work with the blue background buttons on the left side of the screen.
So here is my two cents. I'm sure that the HP people are working hard to fix things. In the mean time maybe we can do our part to reduce these duplicate messages. Again, I think that the more input on this thread, the better. Then the HP people will have a much better idea regarding what is going on and the relative size of the problem.

Re: Forum display problems
1. displaywidth seems to be set by webserver. Recently width has been changing for different discussions. Untidy wrapping may be related to this
2. Recently I have had slow access problems. The browser looks like it is receving data, but not displaying it yet. When I get impatient and click 'stop' and then 'reload' it usually appears as quick as normal (I was thinking it was a problem with our end of the internet connection, but that is hard to know for sure)

Re: Forum display problems
All complaints about this servcie should be directed to its administrator;
(note: please send comments/complaints to itrc_forums@hp.com)
If we complain to him about it maybe he will get something done. If we dont complain nothing will happen. Ive just been trying to post a 64bit version of lsof to the lsof question, its shows more replies in the question list but my reply never gets onto the actual question, so ive emailed Shayne about it.

Re: Forum display problems
Same for me:
- Hangs quite frequently.
- After submitting a reply, the message gets posted, but the confirmation doesn't come. As Tim said, first verify whether the reply is posted before re-posting.
Bye,
Rik

Re: Forum display problems
I get all the problems already mentioned as well along with the occasional HTTP 404 - File not found error when replying. The message does get posted (eventually} though.
Regards,
John
