Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
As reported by a number of forums members, there had been an intermittent problem with the "points assign" function. Upon being submitted, the points were not appearing on the question/answer page.
We released a patch this week that will hopefully correct the problem. If you continue to experience the problem, please delete any forums pages in your cache -- we've seen this has an affect on the outcome of the points submission.
We hope you find the "points assign" function to work well -- and please use as intended. ;)
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
Personally, I never had the problem, but I heard it enough to know it was real.
Did you put that in about 4 hours ago?
Because the funny thing is today I had a a problem submitting a message. Never happened before - kept getting 404s to the Post page. I had to save my text & backup to restart the submit & then it went fine.
Just wondering if it was timing....
Best Rgds,
Jeff (Who's not trying to burst bubbles)

Re: Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
Nope, timing wasn't an issue...this was released prior to today. I hadn't heard of any problems...isolated issue? Good to see you are back on it.
Thanks,
Dan

I still have to submit-back-submit on simple replies with Opera 7, if this is of any help to you

Re: Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
I just happen to have an open thread right now and I was there less than an hour ago attempting to assign points to it.
I hate to be the one to throw water on the fire, but I still couldn't get the points to 'stick' on the first try.
My history and cache information is cleaned out every hour on the hour (call it paranoia (too many people at this company getting canned recently due to I-net usage behaviors)) by an automatic process. I don't see how the cache issue could be my problem.
Anything else I should try?

Re: Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
Clearing of cache, cookies, etc., is the one thing I am aware of...is there another machine you could login to the forums with and try to assign points as a test on a clean machine.
Are you using a proxy server?? If so, maybe going around it may help. Sorry I don't have better ideas.

Re: Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
Run Netscape 7.x on an HP-UX 11.11 box. Stop playing around with Internet Exploder and Opera and all this other junk.
This IS an HP-UX forum, isn't it?

Re: Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
Dan,
As far as using a 'clean system', the best I can offer is using the machine I have at the house. That may still be M$ based, but I know what it has and I am not forced to use Internet Exploder there. I will try it from there the first chance I have and let you know if it is any different.
Fair 'nuff?

Re: Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
By the way whose fault is it that the cookies are getting screwed up? Doesn't your software put them there? Why doesn't it clean them up too?
Does anyone have a little utility we could run to automatically clean up the forum cookie crumbs (without removing the one that has my login and password in it)?

Re: Forums Update - Points Assign Fix
Sorry I didn???t get to posting this earlier but I managed to get just a bit tied up with other issues (I???m sure I???m the only person that ever happens to :)???
I did get a chance to test this out away from the office and with a totally different web browser. Although I didn???t really like the idea of clearing out the cookies that let me auto-log on some of the web sites I frequent, I took your advice and did so anyway.
I had no better luck with NS 7.x, a clean cache, and no cookies than I had behind the corp. firewall using M$ Internet Exploder. The point assignment still took 2 tries. I will offer this much: I don???t remember too many times that it has ever taken more than 2 tries with anything other than M$ IE. Even with that ???browser??? it still doesn???t usually take more than twice (usually being the key phrase).
Sorry I couldn???t give you better news than that???
