ftp and macro buffer

Hi experts,

does anybody of you know the problem with automated ftp jobs with .netrc files.
If this .netrc exceeds 4 K it triggers an error. 4K macro buffer size exceeded.
Is there a way to increase this Buffer. I'm using standard ftp on HP-UX 11i.
