FTP Banner Problem

Friends,

My ftp banner is no getting set.

Telnet banner is set with /etc/issue.

/etc/ftpd/ftpaccess contains a line banner /etc/issue

I am not able to see the ftp banner in the new servers.

Few of the old servers are having the same entry and its able to display the ftp banner.

Last time I had the same problem and some how I could solve it. But this time I am stuck. Did I miss anything.

Regards,
Syam

Re: FTP Banner Problem

What are the permissions on /etc/issue?
It should be world-readable.
What does this button do?

Re: FTP Banner Problem

In your /etc/inetd.conf entry for ftpd, did you add the "-a" argument so that ftpd will use the configuration file? After setting this flag, you must then do an "inetd -c" to force a reread on the file.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: FTP Banner Problem

See this is the permission.

root@Ultramax in />#ls -al /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess
-r--r--r-- 1 root sys 1746 Jul 29 2003 /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess

Re: FTP Banner Problem

I think that line in /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess should read:

banner=/etc/issue

Don't forget the '='
