FTP Error Filename Accept

Hi guys! I keep receiving an FTP Error 553 Permission Denied Filename (Accept) when I try to upload a 32-character file into a HP-UX 11i server. With this upload I use a FTP Restricted Account I created. When I upload the same file using root account it displays no problem. What do I have to set up in order to upload the file correctly???

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

Check the ownership ls -la or ls -d

of the directory.

Root can do anything it wants.

You should disable ftp for root in ftpaccess. ftp authenticates in clear text. Do you want every user on the Internet/your shop to potentially know the root password.

back to the problem, its ownerhip or permissions.

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

You need to verify that the non-root ID you are using has permission to write to the area you are trying to upload the file to.

It is telling you that you don't have permission to upload the file.

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

either it could be permission problem or you have configured ftp server as read only. i.e user can only download files and not upload.

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

I already checked the permissions. The owner is the user account and it belongs to the group set for the directory. This is the error:

ftp> put 03-03-2005_[00-04-01]_2223952.wav
200 PORT command successful.
553 03-03-2005_[00-04-01]_2223952.wav: Permission denied. (Filename (accept))

And this is the permission set for the directory:

drwxrwx--- 6 user01 ftponly 8192 Jun 2 09:48 nk

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

then it is more likely that your ftp server is configured as read only. it will allow only downloading of files and not uploading

Hope this helps,

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

The configuration is for both of them: downloading and uploading. For instance, I uploaded a 10-character file, and it displayed no error. Is there a file that could restrict the upload of a specific lenght for files?

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

just to confirm the length of file is the reason, rename the source file to a lesser lenght (less than 10 chars) and try to upload that file to same destination directory. see whether it works out

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

The problem is that I shouldn't rename the file with a shorter name, because this is the way the system uses it. The other file was for something else. That is why I need to get this working. Isn't there any ftp configuration file where I can unrestrict this???

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

first let us get confirmed that this is the reason. then we can check for configuration value.

for all u know, this may not be a solution at all and problem may be somewhere else.

there is no harm in checking it out.

Re: FTP Error Filename Accept

I found out what seems to be problem. The problem is with the [ ] characters. They're not accepted, I removed them from the name and it worked. Thanks for all your help.
