ftp failure after loading latest quarterly software bundle

After loading 11.0 software bundle ftp services
allow login outbound, but does not allow login inbound. Also after inital login outbound any other operation, like ls or get or put, error out with:
PORT command successful
150 OpeningASCII mode data connection for /usr/bin/ls
ftp: accept:Invalid Argument
abort: Socket operation on non-socket
abort: bad file number

Has anyone run into a problem like this???

Re: ftp failure after loading latest quarterly software bundle

I still manage one 11.00 box.

I installed the quarterly update March 2004 a few weeks ago. I did not encounter this problem and did do ftp to the box, though my choice these days is sftp.

What I would look for in this situation is the network status. netstat -an netstat -rn ( i always forget which one).

I would check the swagentd log and see if there are any errors in the isntall process.

/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log might provide additional clues with this mystery.

tail -f /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
then ftp in and see what happens.

A careful analysis of what was done besides this update might help.

Have any changes been made to the ftpaccess file? Was an /var/adm/inetd.sec file implemented? Any changes to networking environment?

severify \* might show some problems with binaries.

bdf and see if a critical filesystem is too close to full. /var comes to mind.

I have seen this before when all the dependency patches were not applied. Check for streams and/or arpa patches.
