getting the tape usage

Hello All,

Can anyone please tell me how to determine the the size of the tape remotely.
I want to know the tape size and usage of the tape.
The tape drive in use is DLT7000.

Can dd command be of my use. I have never used it. Please suggest.

Hi,
What backup utility u r using?? if it fabckup and tar not possible i think so..
if u want like that u should have used either some backup utility like DP or netbackup

I am using tar.

CAn't i use dd command

Hi Sunny,

Use this one:

#mt -f /dev/rmt/Xm status

This gives you following parameters of tape.
Drive, Format, Status, File, block.
Will it remain a personal, if I broadcast it here!
