high dtterm load
Hello,
I've a C3000 box with HP-UX11i, it works fine but the console user has noticed a trouble:
some time, after running "vi" (I don't know if this is relevant) the console "freeze", just the mouse could be moved without any results. If I login remotely I can see the "top" processes.
Load averages: 2.27, 1.36, 0.93
157 processes: 145 sleeping, 12 running
Cpu states:
LOAD USER NICE SYS IDLE BLOCK SWAIT INTR SSYS
2.27 23.8% 0.0% 76.2% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0%
Memory: 192844K (98780K) real, 269984K (143388K) virtual, 522572K free Page# 1/4
TTY PID USERNAME PRI NI SIZE RES STATE TIME %WCPU %CPU COMMAND
? 1340 daemon 238 20 53380K 15932K run 98:39 56.28 56.18 X
? 17232 pandolan 227 20 10168K 1116K run 1:07 38.00 37.93 dtterm
pts/8 26960 pandolan 152 24 46208K 20852K run 4:17 4.79 4.78 java
The X daemon and the dtterm of the user are at the top, and the only solution I have is to kill the dtterm (non syslog messages).
Someone has any idea of the cause of this problem?

Your dtterm/X processes may be hanging.
Are we current on patches, these issues are addressed with patching.
Recommendations:
June 2004 patch set.
patch search for dtterm, motif and installation of these patches based on reading the symptons in the patch notes.
The load factor is not particularly high for an active system. Load factor is not the only factor in performance issues. There could be an io/wait or somethng causing the problem.
Collect data and analyze. See attached script.
