hostname changes to 8 characters

Hi all,

I have set my hostname to 12 characters. However, there were instances that after a reboot, my hostname was reduced to 8 characters. I have trouble installing SAP due to this. Does anyone know of a way to solve/go around this?

What OS version are you on?
Setting it to longer than 8 may cause all sorts of problems:
