How to backup whole NIS from HP-UX 11.11

Hi All,

We are going to one HP-UX server (HP-UX 11.11) running NIS server.

What are the details we need to backup to save whole NIS configuration and NIS user databases.

If required, it should be imported.

if you are installing a new server why not go for a ignite backup and restore.

An Ignite backup of vg00 will get you a valid and usable backup of NIS.

Problem is restoring it, normally requires restoring all of vg00.

Assuming you don't want to do this, a simple tar backup of /var (I don't remember the exact location) yp locations is sufficient. You should test restoring this to a lab machine that is not on your main network.

There are numerous threads on restoring files/directories from a make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery backup. It really isn't all that difficult.
